Help with my contrast

So my program chair made the comment that my pictures were a little flat. Today I went to him and was able to determine how to bring a wider variety of contrast to my pictures. As seen below:













Hopefully when I print these at Kinkos they will turn up as nice.

And then there was an ashtray...

I was looking around and found this picture in my old archives. Lovely little scene of an ashtray in a study.. I need to fix it up a little then I can add that to my portfolio as well.
